Growing fearful of the fading relevance of the music they love and a perceived watering down of a brutally honest musical genre, The Sheens banded together in 2011, hoping to add their sense of truth and raw energy to a once vibrant New York City music scene. After Guitarist Luke Martin’s short stint in guitarist/vocalist Caterina Schemidt’s Shiny Shoes project, the two struck up a friendship and musical connection they deemed worthy of its own endeavor. Recruiting former Volumen front man Edwin Montalvo to play drums and add his pounding rhythmic energy to their sound, the three began the process of writing songs and exchanging demos that would eventually form the foundation of the Sheens’ growing catalogue. Comprised of three songwriters with different styles and experiences, the collaboration offers proof that a good song is enough to show us what we all have in common: a desire to speak our minds, sing our thoughts, and jump up and down while dancing to a rock n roll song. Recently recording their demo at Threshold studios in NYC, The Sheens are ready to make a name for themselves in these modern and uncertain times. Incorporating elements of punk, soul, and pop into their 21st century take on stripped down pure rock n roll music, the result is a twisting blend that would make The Ronettes proud. As their ambitions continue to grow, the band’s mission remains simple: to write great songs and perform the SHIT out of them live. Come join us.
